better salary.

  1. I am already working in a company in Manufacturing area as an Engineer and having
an experience of 10 years and earning 5 lakhs per annum as salary. Can I learn ERP to switch to IT?

Yes ERP will be the right choice considering your age and experience. Since if other areas selected you
will be needing to understand coding / programming. Whereas in ERP your knowledge will be useful
and valued as ERP Functional consultant.

  1. Since I am late in entering the IT field will I able to cope with the other young entrants
    and compete with them?

ERP is the only area in IT where professionals from other areas also enter laterally and survive,
or even do better due to their domain knowledge. Even professionals at the age of 50 resign jobs and join
ERP courses and perform very well.

  1. I am already drawing a decent salary in a sales job, why should I consider
ERP training or migrating to IT?

If a person is really satisfied in a current job with his salary and growth rate, then the
individual is highly lucky. But most of the time it does not happen in a real world, when one
comes across a person who is of same age group / qualification and working in better
environment and earning better salaries.

and getting good salary? Is it wise decision to move to ERP consulting?

Most of the companies do not allow their resources to move from one platform to another. In spite of this
you are given an opportunity to move to ERP do not miss it, grab it. In few top consulting companies itself
there is special allowances for very few of the areas. Among that ERP is one so you
will get better allowances even though your basic salary is same. More over the chances one get
to travel abroad is 5 times better in ERP area compared with mere programming skills.

  1. IT market is moving up and down, is it a wise decision to migrate from non-IT job
    to an IT job.

Ever since Y2K issue came most of the clients are moving from Mainframe/ mid range to ERP packages.
So the demand for ERP consultants has not been satisfied yet, as well as it cannot be competed by
freshers or people without sufficient training like in otherprogramming areas. ERP consultancy market
is much more stable compared within IT industry.

  1. I am working in a BPO for the past 4 years and my salary is equally comparable with IT guys.
I am not able to take a strong decision of quitting my job and train myself in ERP.
    What do you suggest?

Many of the BPO employees are not able to take a strong decision either due to family circumstances or a feeling
of insecurity prevails whether they will be able to match the IT industry expectations.
Recollect the saying 'No Pain No Gain'. At some point one has to decide and steer their career in the right direction.
The moment you decide to pursue IT training and take an IT career you have progressed 25% towards the target,
since you coming from BPO your communications skills will be good which is vital attribute during IT interviews.

  1. My friend suggests me to do a software Testing course since it will be easy to understand and
since I am from a non-IT background. (BE Electrical)

Software Testing courses are easier, but once you enter your domain knowledge will not be useful.
If you wish to use the 4 year course BE knowledge in your career ERP will be a good choice.
Secondly the salary range of ERP consulting is much higher when with software testing or software programming.
